Hi, my name is Peter Welch. I’m sure that once you have read this ‘About Us’ page,  you will see why we are the best  detecting tour guides in the UK.

I first started metal detecting back in 1976 on the farm where my parents trained racehorses in Ascot in Berkshire. It was during the heat wave that year that a parch mark showed on one of the fields and this turned out to be the course of a Roman road. It was here that I found my first Roman coin, a sestertius of Faustina using a C-Scope BFO detector. From then on I was hooked!’

Now Pete runs the largest metal detecting club in the country . He called the club ‘The Weekend Wanderers’ and started out with about thirty members. Early success on farm land with some excellent finds saw the club rapidly grow to over 1500 members. Club members have had many excellent successes on hunts organized by the Weekend Wanderers amongst which are several caches of Celtic and Roman coins, a Roman grave, many items declared treasure and the find of a rare Iron Age decorated bronze mirror!

‘I created the Weekend Wanderers back in 1997 after I realized that many detectorists experienced difficulty gaining permission to metal detect on farm land. I found that many land owners were happier to grant permission to a professional, well run organization and hence the Weekend Wanderers were born’

The excellent reputation of the Weekend Wanderers soon traveled abroad. In response to the many requests from overseas visitors to hunt on land here in the UK and because of your love, great enthusiasm and appreciation for our rich history, the new and exciting Weekend Wanderers ENGLAND DETECTING TOURS was formed!

‘Our goal is to ensure that you really enjoy your detecting vacation and make great finds’ says Pete. ‘Our highest priority is satisfied customers and you can rest assured that we will go the extra mile to give you an adventure that you will not forget’

And this is where Pete and his partner Sarah and his best friends The Nev and Big Al come in. Together they make a great team with over 100 years detecting experience between them.

Sarah’s specialty is Tudor history and she has some great stories of that period to tell. Neville (The Nev) is an ancient mariner and has been known to entertain our guest with the occasional risqué nautical song! Big Al is an ex London cab driver who certainly knows how to show you a good time, that is if you survive his sense of humor!

With our expert team as your personal tour guides, you are certain to have a memorable  vacation and hopefully make great finds and make many good friends. Most importantly of all, we are sure that you will have a great time here in England on tour with us!
