WELCOME

We love our overseas visitors enthusiasm and appreciation of England’s history and are thrilled to see you find and handle for the first time in hundreds of years a coin or relic from our shores. Our metal detecting tours have been tailored to suit enthusiasts who like to get the most out of a detecting vacation. With that in mind, we will endeavor to keep traveling times to our sites to a minimum thereby extending your detecting day.

ARRIVALS

Airport transfer time to your hotel is about 90 minutes but can vary. We meet and greet you at the airport, transfer your luggage and drive you to your lodgings. All transport by us on public highways is free of charge. On arrival, you will be signed in and shown your rooms and tour members may wish to rest if on an overnight flight but may go detecting if they choose.  Later that day we all get together for an introduction evening in an historic pub for a complimentary drink. This is a great chance to ask questions about your tour and also to go into details on where and when you will be hunting by studying maps and research notes.

You will find that you are staying quite literally a few minutes walk from the village which is full of fascinating historic buildings You will be able to discover the best of the English countryside from here and explore the many different walks along country lanes and streams. We feel sure that you won’t be disappointed!

THE DETECTING DAY

We will be at the hotel at 8.15 am so when you have finished your breakfast just make your way to the hotel car park with all of your detecting gear and load it up ready to go. Before we head off to the fields, we recommend a quick visit to the local store which is just across the road from the hotel and is an ideal place where you can buy whatever you fancy for lunch. The drive to the site can be fifteen minutes to sixty minutes away depending on which fields are available at the that time of year but we aim to keep the journey as short as possible. As we approach the site we will take the opportunity to tell you about any thrilling treasure finds or about the many exciting ancient relics found nearby and more importantly, show you any historic features such as Roman roads and deserted medieval villages, close to where you will be hunting. On arrival, we will provide you each with  maps  to record the location of your finds. These maps will be useful to you when you get back home as you will have a record of the places that you visited and on what days. Without these maps it would be difficult to recollect where in England you went metal detecting. You can start searching right away and continue until lunch at about midday. This is the perfect opportunity to show and tell and perhaps get finds identified if you are not too sure what you have found. After a short lunch, detecting resumes until 6.00 PM leaving us plenty of time to return to base, get cleaned up and be in time to order dinner.

SIGHTSEEING

Taking time out to see places like Stonehenge, & Salisbury Cathedral (1 hr drive) or perhaps pay a visit to a local museum are all possibilities. For the most part, tour members prefer to make every day count out hunting with a metal detector. However  it’s your vacation after all and we can be flexible as long as the whole group agrees on where and when to do a sightseeing day. Non-detecting tour members may wish to visit London and need a lift to the train station and we will be glad to assist.

DEPARTURE

The night before departure day, we all meet up again for a farewell drink. This is the last chance to record finds and complete outstanding finds recording paperwork. As you may have an early start in the morning take time to check out at reception, say goodbye to friends and load up your luggage ready for the return journey to the airport where we will see you safely to your terminal.
